THE CREEK ART FAIR 2008
With the official support of the Dubai Cultural Council
Taking place for the second time, the Creek Art Fair (CAF) will occur in 16 houses of Bastakiya, the historical of Dubai. Running in parallel to Art Dubai and the Dubai World Cup, the CAF focuses on new and emerging talents. As so often with fringe art fairs, the CAF is a satellite platform that aims at drawing attention to the more innovative artistic talents.
The CAF opens up the traditional environment of Bastakiya to contemporary art. Involving international, regional and local galleries, artists and cultural institutions, the program of events include daily exhibitions, movie screenings, receptions, installations, workshops and sessions. Gathering over 22 galleries, institutions and magazines, the Fair provides a new platform for artistic expression.
For its second edition, the CAF presents some new forms of platforms. It introduces a movie program based on the theme of "Transgressions", a series of talks by experts and cultural leaders as well as some unique exhibitions and installations. One of the highlights of this year's Fair is Alef Magazine's first art show in collaboration with XVA and Phillips de Pury & Company, the world's leading contemporary auction house for which this event will represent the first foray into the Dubai art market. The CAF also keeps an eye out for local talents by devoting one of the Bastakiya houses to young and emerging UAE artists. By involving 3 universities, the CAF also provides a platform for new talents.
Organized by XVA, the CAF is a collective effort of the entire artistic community of Dubai. It is an independent and fringe art fair aiming at placing the international limelight on Dubai's art and cultural agenda.
